As an independent candidate for mayor, things can get a little confusing come election time. So I want to try and clear things up a little now. In West Virginia you can run for public office with out belonging to one of the major political parties that have gained automatic ballot access. (In WV these parties are: Democratic, Republican and Mountain). As an independent or minor party candidate (I'm an Independent Candidate) you must gather signatures on a nominating petition to have your name placed on the general election ballot. This means my name will not appear on the primary election ballot. By obtaining the required number of signatures on my nominating petition I bypass the primary election and advance to the general election. So don't worry, regardless of your party affiliation, you can cast your vote for me in the general election.
If you have a question or an issue that you would like me to address, feel free to contact me here or you may send a private message through the Feedback Form on the home page.
Thanks for you support,
Tony Martin,
Candidate for Mayor
Beckley, WV
PS: I will try and find a copy of a sample ballot from a prior municipal election and post it to this topic to give you a better idea of what to expect.
